Terms of service
1. About us and these terms
This website is run by keri takes the wheel, a trade name of Keri Byrne Ceramics, a sole proprietorship registered in the Netherlands. "We", "us" and "our" refer to keri takes the wheel.
- Business address Roerstraat 68-1, 1078LS Amsterdam, The Netherlands

- KvK number 42051132

These terms apply to every visit to this website and every purchase or booking you make through it. By placing an order or booking a class, you accept these terms. Please read them before you buy.
We make and sell wheel-thrown, handmade ceramics, take custom commissions and teach pottery classes. We sell to consumers for personal use. For wholesale or business orders, please contact us for separate terms.
Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under Dutch or EU consumer law. If you live in another EU country, the mandatory consumer protections of that country also apply to you.
2. Orders, prices and payment
All prices are in euros and include Dutch VAT. Shipping costs are shown before you pay. You pay the price shown at the moment you place your order.
Your order becomes a binding agreement once we send you an order confirmation by email. You must be 18 or older to place an order.
If we can't fulfill your order, for example because a piece has sold out or a price was clearly wrong, we will let you know as soon as possible and refund anything you have paid within 14 days.
Discount codes can be used once per customer unless stated otherwise, and can't be combined or exchanged for cash.
You pay through the payment methods offered at checkout. Payments are processed by Shopify and its payment partners. We never see or store your full card details.
3. Handmade pieces, care and safety
Every piece is thrown and glazed by hand, so no two are exactly alike. Size, shape, color and glaze can vary slightly from the photos and from other pieces in the same collection. Small marks, pinholes, glaze drips and color shifts are part of the handmade process and are not defects. Colors on your screen may also look different from the real piece.
Each piece carries the KB maker's mark on the underside.
The product page tells you what each piece is suitable for. Unless the product page says otherwise, the following applies.
- Functional pieces are food safe and made with lead-free glazes
- Pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe, though handwashing helps them last longer
- Pieces are not oven safe and should not go from very cold to very hot, as sudden temperature changes can crack ceramics
- Pieces marked decorative are not for food or drink
Follow the care instructions on the product page or included with your order.
4. Shipping and breakage
We ship to the Netherlands, US and EU countries listed at checkout. Delivery times are estimates. We aim to ship in-stock pieces within 3 working days and will deliver within 30 days of your order at the latest, unless we agree otherwise with you. Made-to-order and commissioned pieces take longer, and we tell you the expected timeline before you order.
We pack every piece carefully. The risk of loss or damage stays with us until the parcel is delivered to you.
If your piece arrives broken or damaged, email us as soon as possible, within 7 days of delivery, with photos of the piece and the packaging. Please keep the packaging until we have sorted it out. We will send a replacement where possible, or refund the piece and its shipping costs.
If delivery fails because of an incorrect address you gave us, we may charge the cost of reshipping.
5. Your right to cancel (14 days)
You can cancel your purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. The 14 days start the day after you, or someone you name, receive the piece. If one order arrives in several parcels, they start after the last one arrives.
To cancel, tell us within those 14 days by email at hi@keritakesthewheel.com. You can use the model cancellation form below, but you don't have to.
Send the piece back within 14 days after telling us, well packed and in its original condition. You pay the cost of returning it. You may handle the piece as you would in a shop, but if it shows wear or damage beyond that, we may deduct the loss in value.
We refund everything you paid, including the standard shipping cost of your original order, within 14 days of your cancellation. We may wait with the refund until we have received the piece back. We refund using the same payment method you used.
When the right to cancel does not apply
- Commissions and pieces made to your specifications, such as personalized dishes with your initials
- Class bookings for a specific date or time (see section 7 for class cancellations)
Our full Refund policy gives more detail and follows these rules.

6. Commissions and personalized pieces
Before we start a commission, we agree the design, size, glaze, price and expected timeline with you in writing, usually by email.
We ask for a deposit of 50% of the price before we start. The rest is due before the finished piece ships. Because the piece is made for you, the deposit is non-refundable once work has started.
Clay shrinks and glazes change in the kiln, so finished sizes and colors are close to what we agreed but never exact. Small differences are part of the process and not a reason to refuse the piece. If the finished piece differs significantly from what we agreed, we will remake it or refund you.
If a piece cracks or fails in the kiln, we remake it at no extra cost and let you know about any delay.
Personalized pieces, such as dishes with hand-lettered initials, are made to order. Please check spelling and details carefully before you order, as we make exactly what you give us.
7. Pottery classes
The class page tells you what's included, such as clay, tools, glazing and firing, and how many pieces you can take home.
Canceling a booking. You can cancel free of charge up to 7 days before the class and get a full refund. After that, we don't refund, but you can send someone in your place or move to another date if there's space. Please let us know as early as you can.
If we cancel. If a class is canceled because of illness, too few bookings or a problem at the studio, you choose between a new date or a full refund.
Your pieces. Pieces are fired after the class and are usually ready for pickup within 4 to 6 weeks. We let you know when they're ready. Please collect them within 8 weeks of that message, after which we can't keep them. Pieces can crack in the kiln, and we can't guarantee every piece survives firing.
At the studio. Participants must be 16 or older, unless the class page says otherwise. Please follow the instructions you're given for handling tools, glazes and equipment, and wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Let us know in advance about anything that could affect your safety during the class.
8. Guarantee, complaints and liability
You have the statutory right to a piece that matches its description and is fit for normal use. If something is wrong with your piece, beyond the natural variation described in section 3, we will repair, replace or refund it. Please tell us within a reasonable time after you notice the problem. Telling us within two months of noticing it is always on time.
Send complaints to hi@keritakesthewheel.com. We reply within 14 days. If we can't resolve a complaint together, you can take it to the competent court (see section 10).
We are not liable for damage caused by using a piece in a way it isn't meant for, such as using decorative pieces for food, or ignoring the care instructions. Except where the law does not allow it, our liability is limited to the price you paid for the piece or class concerned. This limit does not apply to damage caused by our intent or gross negligence, or to personal injury caused by a defective product.
9. Other terms

10. Governing law and disputes

11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page on the day you place your order or booking applies to that order or booking.
